As you can guess; I had my birthday back in February.
As you can see from Higgins Storm Chasing post below
It was a bit of wet birthday weekend due to Cyclone Marcia; If you wish to help those affected, head-on over to places like Givit – http://www.givit.org.au/urgently-needed-list
I sort of slept in till 7ish that morning. We had pancakes for breakfast and it was hammering down outside. Didn’t plan to even leave the house that day, but my 7yr old and I always go to Bunnings for the childrens D.I.Y classes. I will admit, at different points in time, with the right staff members, the classes are alot of fun 😉 trust me. I so totally get involved and make different arts & crafts with my child 😀 and she loves it when I take the time to sit on the little childrens chairs beside her, talk with her about what she’s making and what I’m making. What colours/patterns/objects we’re using etc. Anyway, heading off track a bit here – I rallied my butt, showered and clothed, we went to Bunnings in the lovely rainy weather.
We made Chinese hats and Chinese Masks. Staff decided it was too wet and dreary for paint, so we had an awesome array of glitter, feathers, sequins and textas to choose from. 😀 as you can see we didn’t quite get finished. Had alot of fun though.
Afterwards lil Miss and I made our way to the local library. Must say, glad we did. At that point in time I only had coding and young fiction books to read. Whilst waiting for lil Miss to borrow what she wanted, and pick my eldests hold requests up, it popped into my head that I hadn’t checked to see what this particular libraries collection of Richard Laymon and James Herbert were like; (believe it or not, I haven’t read all their books yet. Am working on it though 😉 ). Anyway, totally disappointed in the ‘L’ section. Nothing! None! Nada! No Laymon! Utterly horrific to me at that point in time. Took the 20steps round to the other side of the shelves: And guess what?! Score! There’s a handful of James Herbert I haven’t read yet. Brilliant I know 🙂
Even better than that, is the spine of this book. Looks familiar. And I’m, (out loud mind you. Copped a couple weird looks. And this old couple scowled at me) ‘ No way! It’s not, is it? Couldn’t be. What’re the chances of finding the sequel when I can’t even remember the name of the first book…) Meanwhile lil Miss is ‘Mum, you’re not talking to the book shelf are you?
lols my unthought out reply was ‘No bub. I’m talking to the book.’ Getting back to it anyway. The book in question that I found was – Hellhole Inferno. Not the sequel, but the last in the Hellhole trilogy. As you can imagine, considering I’d been trying to remember the name of the first book in the trilogy or the authors (I could remember that the book had 2 authors, just not their names & in my head I could picture the cover of the first book of the series in my head perfectly), since I moved interstate 3yrs ago. All this stuff was a great start to an extremely wet day.
Heading on later into the day, I think bout 13:30 or 14:00. I decided I wanted to cook Tuna Mornay from scratch for my birthday dinner and mini eensy weeny tiny chocolate cupcakes for my birthday cake. Well needless to say, that didn’t go exactly go to plan. Whilst cooking the Tuna Mornay, I thought I’d heard mum being grumpy at something. Didn’t worry too much about it, coz you should hear her when she gets frustrated over TV show storylines 😛
Once I had the T.Mornay in the oven I wandered downstairs to check and see what the issue was. Well, I probably should’ve gone and checked sooner. Remember I mentioned the dreary, constant, reasonably heavy rain? Yeah well… it was leaking into her bedroom and bathroom, just meandering its way from one corner out across the rooms. Sort of similar if you were to take a full mop bucket into the corner and start pouring it in a steady stream. That’s about the rate at which the water was coming in. As quickly as you’d mop and dry; it’d start leaking again from the corner rolling its way across the floor.
Then started the rush outside in that glorious downfall, checking and cleaning out drains around that side of the house. All that done, it still wasn’t enough, as there was just a little bit much water for the drain to handle. 😉 It’s all good. Both lil Miss and big Sis to the rescue, they were scooping the water out of the drain manually with cups.
While they were doing this. I got a little outta whack and was too tired for anymore cooking from scratch. Without telling the kiddies I went and spent about $20 on lollies, chocolates, chips and chocolate mud cake at Aldi. I’d stopped at Woolies first. Alas being that late on a Saturday & almost closing time, the dirty buggers didn’t have any chocolate mudcake. They had caramel and white chocolate. Not the one I wanted 😕
When I arrived home 😈 well the kids were all, where’d you go? Why didn’t you let us come? They quickly chilled out when they saw the unhealthy box of goodies.
So the evening was spent with T/Mornay, box full of unhealthy goodies and a nice kids movie – Thunder and the house of magic.
By the time we finished with Thunder and the T/Mornay and junk food; there wasn’t any room left for cake 😐 Oh well. That didn’t bother me as, my family got me the best pressies ever 😯
Mum gave me God of War Collection Volume 2. Pretty stoked with that, as I’ve never owned a PSP, so never had a chance to play Chains of Olympus or Ghost of Sparta.
Eldest Miss gave me a beautiful card and Risen 2 Dark Waters. What more could you want than pirates? Except for maybe zombies as well….
